Mend a Tiny Heart, Give Life-Changing Hope
Thousands of boys and girls are born with serious heart defects each year. Without surgery, many won’t survive past childhood.
Through Children’s Heart Project, Samaritan’s Purse arranges life-saving operations for boys and girls who live in countries where the specialist care they urgently need isn’t available.
This year, will you prayerfully consider helping one more child receive life-saving surgery in Jesus’ Name? Your support will give a child a brand new future and open powerful doors for the Gospel.
£20 can share the cost of life-saving heart surgery for a child.
£100 can provide screening supplies for children awaiting surgery.
£3,400 can provide full screening, tests, and accommodation for a child receiving surgery.
“My son has a new heart – and so do I!”
Perevsuren’s son, Erdene, was born with a life-threatening heart condition. But the surgery he urgently needed wasn’t available in their home country of Mongolia.
For 5 years Perevsuren watched her son struggle as his little heart and lungs worked overtime to try and keep up with his friends. Then she got connected with Children’s Heart Project.
“I know now that it’s because of God and Samaritan’s Purse that everything happened,” said Perevsuren.
Together with an interpreter, Perevsuren and Erdene travelled to the United States, where surgeons were able to repair Erdene’s tiny heart. During their stay, a volunteer host family cared for them with extraordinary kindness.
Through the love shown to her family, Perevsuren began asking questions about Jesus. After going through The Greatest Journey discipleship course designed for Operation Christmas Child shoebox recipients, she placed her faith in Christ.
Today, Perevsuren reads a Children’s Bible with Erdene. His favourite story? The Good Samaritan—because it’s a story of kindness shown toward someone who would have otherwise been left for dead.
This year, Samaritan’s Purse UK is supporting 12 more surgeries for boys and girls in Mongolia. But we need your help to continue this important work. Will you help give children like Erdene a new heart, and a new future?
Your gift of £100 can help share the cost of life-saving heart surgery in Jesus’ Name.
What Life Is Like Without Surgery
Children born with serious heart defects often struggle for every breath. Their hearts and lungs work overtime. They tire easily. They can’t keep up with other boys and girls their age. As they get older, their condition only gets worse.
For families in countries without access to specialist cardiac care, diagnosis of a serious congenital heart defect can feel overwhelming.
That’s why the Children’s Heart Project was started: to give these boys and girls a second chance at life.
“It’s really scary to think about if there wasn’t a surgery—I wouldn’t be alive today, God saved my life.”
—Migaa, who is now pursuing a career as a cardiologist, after received her own surgery through Children’s Heart Project as a teenager
“I thank God for the second chance to live a normal life, and also for the second chance I have in a new life in Christ.”
—Fatima (age 17), and her daughter, Maria (age 2), who both received surgery through Children’s Heart Project.
"I used to think that I only needed heart surgery, but I realised there is a big hole in our souls that needs to be filled. God is the One who fills the hole."
—Bat-Ulzii, who had heart surgery when he was 13 years old, received Christ and went on to pursue his calling into ministry
“My life turned around at Heart Camp. Finally, I had brothers and sisters that I could relate to. We shared our testimonies, and I could see that they went through the same things that I went through.”
—Sheena, who gave her life to Jesus at Heart Camp, and now co-leads that same Heart Camp in Uganda
Since 1997, more than 1,600 children have received life-saving heart surgery through Children’s Heart Project.
A Child’s Journey to a Healthy Heart
Each child who receives surgery through Children’s Heart Project is treated with the utmost care and attention:
- Medical Tests: Rigorous medical tests are carried out to ensure accurate diagnoses
- Travel & Care: Children are flown to world-renowned hospitals to ensure the best possible care in places like North America, South Korea, Spain, and Grand Cayman
- Language Support: A Christian interpreter accompanies the child and guardian to reduce language barriers and to share the Gospel
- Costs: All travel and medical expenses are covered
- Host family care: A volunteer host family who lives near the hospital welcomes and cares for the child, guardian, and interpreter during their stay
- Surgery: Top-class surgeons perform the child’s heart operation
- Recovery and return home: Once the child is strong enough to return home they receive ongoing follow-up care and health checks
- Long-term support: At age 5, children are invited to attend Heart Camp where they hear the Gospel and meet lifelong friends who have been through CHP just like them
When you give, you become part of this worldwide team that is bringing healing and wholeness to thousands of children.
Not Only Hearts Healed — Souls Reached
In addition to providing life-saving surgery, Samaritan’s Purse shares the message of Christ with every surgery. As a result, many families are coming to faith through this project.
When a child returns home healthy, doors open for the Gospel in ways families never expected. In Mongolia alone, at least six house churches have formed through the work of Children’s Heart Project.
Not only are hearts being repaired. Lives are being redeemed in Jesus’ Name.
Children Waiting This Year
We are so excited about what God is doing through Children’s Heart Project. But our hearts break for all the children just like Erdene in need of surgery, and the parents like Perevsuren who worry about their child’s condition.
That’s why this year, Samaritan’s Purse UK is supporting heart surgeries for children from Mongolia, including:
Saikhanbileg was diagnosed with a serious heart condition before he was born. He required specialist care from birth. After delivery, he spent 18 days in intensive care. By God’s grace, Saikhanbileg survived those early days and now is scheduled for heart surgery in the coming weeks.
Amin-Erdene was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in August 2025. Recently, an Operation Christmas Child shoebox brought her joy in the midst of her struggles. She’s pictured holding a noughts-and-crosses game—one of her favourite gifts. Amin-Erdene is now scheduled to undergo heart surgery this month.
Nandin-Erdene was born with a hole in her heart. For 8 years, her heart and lungs have worked overtime while she’s struggled to keep up with other children her age. Recently, an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift brought her joy and hope as she waits for the surgery she urgently needs. She is now scheduled to undergo her procedure this March.
Galsandorj was diagnosed with a serious heart condition at just two months old and has relied on medication ever since. But she needs specialist surgery to live a healthy, normal life. We thank God she is now scheduled to undergo heart surgery in the coming weeks.
Lkhamaachin was born prematurely at 30 weeks and diagnosed with a serious heart condition. Despite the challenges, he is a sweet little boy who brings joy to his family every day. He is now preparing for life-saving heart surgery this month.
14 years ago, Baatarkhuu’s older brother received life-saving heart surgery through the Children’s Heart Project. This month, Baatarkhuu receives the same life-changing care, offering him a chance at a healthy future in Jesus’ name.
Please be praying for successful surgeries for each of these children this year:
- For safe and successful surgery
- For complete healing and long-term health
- For families to encounter Jesus’ love
Will you help mend one more tiny heart in Jesus’ Name?
Through your gift, a child who once struggled for breath will run freely, a mother who feared the worst will rejoice, and an entire family could step into new life in Christ.
£20 can share the cost of life-saving heart surgery for a child.
£100 can provide screening supplies for children awaiting surgery.
£3,400 can provide full screening, tests, and accommodation for a child receiving surgery.
Please keep the children receiving these surgeries in your prayers—may God heal them, bless them, and fill their hearts with His love.
