When Ropani (above) saw her newborn son’s cleft lip, she knew that they would both be ridiculed and shamed. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo and many other countries worldwide, children with a cleft lip are deemed cursed. Ropani feared for her son’s life because the deformity made it impossible for him to eat normally, and he quickly became malnourished. Ropani travelled many hours to reach the city where a Samaritan’s Purse team was repairing cleft lips for free in Jesus’ Name. She was thrilled that our surgeons were able to mend her son’s lip. Our team shared with Ropani the eternal hope of Jesus Christ, and she decided to commit her life to the Saviour.
