Kaswera struggled to make ends meet after conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo forced her to flee her home and seek refuge in another city. Jobs were scarce, and she often didn’t have enough to eat. The teenager was thrilled when a Samaritan’s Purse team invited women in her community to join a livelihoods programme that would prepare them to become hairdressers. Kaswera learned how to style hair, budget an income, and run a small salon. Our vocational projects in countries worldwide teach vulnerable families practical skills they can use to secure a job and transition from subsistence living to more stable income generation.
