Ireen (above) fell and broke her elbow and wrist while scaling the mountainside to collect firewood near her home in Malawi. She received free medical care from a Samaritan’s Purse orthopaedic team at Nkhoma Hospital but became discouraged while she was there recovering from surgery. She missed her family and worried about them. One day, a chaplain prayed with her and gave her a Bible. Ireen’s countenance brightened as the chaplain read from God’s Word. Ireen said that Scripture uplifted her and encouraged her to continue trusting the Lord. Our Hospital Evangelism Programme supports and equips chaplains to minister to the spiritual needs of patients like Ireen. Your gift provides Bibles for patients and study materials for our chaplains’ one-year training course, that they may be “thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17).
