Every shoebox gift delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s amazing love, but a shoebox is just the beginning. In the hands of local churches, every gift-filled shoebox is a tool transforming the lives of children and their families around the world through the good news of God’s greatest gift, Jesus Christ.
As shoebox gifts are distributed, local pastors or church leaders present the Gospel in a fun way designed for kids, while family and friends listen in. Along with their shoebox gift, children can also choose to take a copy of The Greatest Gift, a colourful presentation of Bible stories in their own language.
Their shoebox is the first gift many children have ever received! The treasures and personal letters inside communicate that someone cares for them and gives them an opportunity to experience the love of God.
Local churches use gift-filled shoeboxes to reach out into their communities. They are able to access places they might never be welcomed otherwise.
After receiving a shoebox gift, a child may be invited to enrol on The Greatest Journey, 12 fun and interactive lessons based on the Bible. It is taught by local volunteers who have been trained to deliver the programme.
The programme is offered free of charge, without obligation and with the consent of their parent or guardian.
While the children are on the course, they get to share their own journey of faith with others. At the end they get to invite their family and friends to a graduation ceremony, where they also receive a certificate and New Testament Bible in their own language.
