Disaster Relief

Floods, famine, earthquakes, tsunamis, civil unrest. Over 2 billion people were affected by disasters in the last decade, mainly in the developing world. The impact was greatest on those who already face the daily challenge of grinding poverty.

Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has been responding to large and small-scale disasters around the world, providing critical, life-saving assistance to victims of war, famine, natural disaster, poverty and disease. When disaster strikes, Samaritan’s Purse is often one of the first international NGOs to respond, usually at the request of local churches, providing relief, comfort, physical help and life-saving emergency aid to those affected. We work with all agencies and organisations involved in disaster relief to provide an efficient, effective, coordinated response.

Samaritan’s Purse is well equipped to respond immediately to humanitarian crises. Through our global network, we have access to pre-positioned emergency supplies that can be discharged swiftly around the world when needed. We work local churches to implement a locally-led disaster recovery programme utilising resources such as the Samaritan’s Purse Site Management Team, tools, equipment, and materials. For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death.” (Psalm 72:12-13, NIV)
