Thank you for bringing Good News and Great Joy to a child living in Macedonia!
Your shoebox gift was one of 10,664 sent to Macedonia. We thank God for the thousands of children that have received shoeboxes here since Operation Christmas Child began distributions. While we are not able to provide pictures or information on the specific child who received your individual shoebox, we hope you will be inspired by the photos and stories below.
- Macedonia has a population of 2.1 million
- 17% of the population are under 15
In Macedonia, one of our church partners recently held an event reaching out to children in local marginalised communities. Many of these children and young people face daily struggles and are sent out to beg on the street. Among them was Elena*, a little girl who is 6 years old and blind. She is fortunate to be able to attend a school for the blind, but many of the other children at the event do not have the opportunity to go to school. As the event began, she sat patiently and waited. An air of excitement grew, as one by one the children were each given a shoebox gift. When Elena received hers, her fingers started to explore the contents eagerly. To her great joy she found a Barbie doll her and face lit up as she beamed with delight. A member of the Operation Christmas Child National Leader Team for Macedonia was so touched by meeting this little girl that he plans to take his own daughters to visit her at the school. *Name changed for security
OUR LOCAL PARTNERS SHARED:
‘A few years ago Anastasia received a shoebox gift while she was going through a very difficult time. Her parents were divorcing and she was very fragile, but we remember that she was so happy about the present she received!
Anastasia is 13 now. Recently, she told us that she vividly remembers that evening and the wonderful gift she received. She confided to me that the party and the gift were the best things that happened to her during the divorce of her parents. She told me that she remembers every word she heard that evening and she keeps it in her heart.’
THE IMPACT OF A SHOEBOX:
Every shoebox gift matters! Watch this very special message—to you—from shoebox recipients around the world.
National Leadership Teams
Operation Christmas Child invests in building National Leadership Teams made up of trained local volunteers and staff within over 100 countries. These teams then work alongside many Regional Leadership teams who in turn train local church leaders and teachers. In Macedonia 3 teams are working with 37 ministry partners (teams of volunteers in local churches) to make Operation Christmas Child and The Greatest Journey possible each year!
THE GREATEST JOURNEY
Each shoebox gift delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s amazing love. But a shoebox is just the beginning. After receiving a shoebox gift, children have the opportunity to enrol in The Greatest Journey – 12 fun and interactive Bible lessons, where they get the chance to discover who Jesus is and how to begin their own journey of faith. At the end of the course they get to experience a graduation ceremony where they receive a New Testament in their own language.
The Greatest Journey is taught by local volunteers who have been trained to deliver the programme. It is offered free of charge, without obligation and with the consent of the child’s parent or guardian. Over 1,734 children in Macedonia have enrolled in this programme since it started.
You can be a part of helping us “go and make disciples of all nations” as Jesus commanded. Sign up for a monthly gift of £5, and each year you will give 12 children study materials, a New Testament, and the opportunity to share their faith with family and friends.
THANK YOU for sharing Good News and Great Joy with children around the world!
