On Thursday 14th March, Tropical Cyclone Idai tore through Mozambique leaving a trail of devastation in it’s path. With wind speeds greater than 106mph, Idai has been described as one of the biggest natural disasters to hit the Southern African Region, and has caused a severe humanitarian emergency.

To date, at least 300 people are confirmed dead in Mozambique along with another 100 in neighbouring Zimbabwe, however, the death toll is feared to be much higher. Thousands of people remain stranded having had their homes destroyed by catastrophic flooding and the severity of the storm. Many are left clinging to roof tops, or stuck in trees.

Our Samaritan’s Purse DC-8 aircraft will arrive in Mozambique on Saturday carrying emergency shelters, tarpaulins, medical personnel and disaster relief specialists. Mosquito nets will also be distributed.

Please pray for our team as they deploy and for our local Church partners, who are already on the ground, as they serve in Jesus’ Name, helping to bring physical and spiritual aid to those in desperate need.
