As the crisis continues in Afghanistan, Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with organisations to sponsor flights and get people to safety. We’re also assessing needs in the region to determine how our Disaster Assistance Response Team can best serve families desperate for hope.

The world has been shocked in recent days by the ongoing images of chaos at Kabul’s airport as tens of thousands of desperate people, including UK citizens, try to escape the Taliban. These Islamic extremists are poised to force Afghanistan back into a dark and brutal state where Christians, anyone who associated with the West, women, and others face severe persecution and death. Some of our brothers and sisters in Christ are running from place to place, trying to stay safe.

Samaritan’s Purse has been partnering with organisations on the ground to get men, women, and children out of this horrific situation. We have been able to sponsor flights that have brought hundreds to safety—one of our partners made three trips that brought out 700 people in one day! We have also supported the evacuation of 80 missionary families via land routes.

In addition, we have a Disaster Assistance Response Team in the region to determine how and where we can best help those who have fled with just the clothes on their backs. We know hygiene items will be urgently needed, and traumatised children will need comfort items and compassionate care.

Only God’s mighty hand can save those trapped in this crisis. Please pray for the people of Afghanistan. Please pray that rescue operations will continue and that more people will escape to safety. Also pray for leaders to have wisdom and a great sense of urgency. Pray that God will continue to lead Samaritan’s Purse as we seek to help those fleeing Afghanistan.
