Water is the most basic of necessities - no one can survive without it. Yet 884 million (roughly 1 out of every 8 people in the world) don't have access to clean, safe water.
At Samaritan’s Purse, we’re committed to doing something about that.
With the help of local churches and charities, we have already ensured that thousands of families across Africa have access to safe water and sanitation, while providing them with an opportunity to hear about the 'living water' which Jesus said could be found in Him.
Our water and sanitation programmes began in 2005, after we identified some of the places where the need was greatest and where we could work alongside local partners - both churches and charities - who shared our passion.
Since that time, we've been able to provide over 220,000 people with access to clean water and sanitation across Ethiopia, Liberia, Niger, Mozambique and Uganda. We are providing...
1. Clean water – We want to ensure families have access to clean water and have already installed over 4,000 water filters to do just that.
2. Sanitation –2.6 billion people in the world (roughly 2 out of every 5) do not have proper drains or toilets. By providing communities with a latrine (a loo!), we can help improve hygiene and prevent the spread of disease.
3. Health and Hygiene Education - We train local educators to teach people about how to look after themselves and their water safely. This includes ways of obtaining and storing safe water, how to dispose of waste, and the importance of hand-washing and hygienic food handling.
We have already seen the lives of so many people transformed by the simple gift of water or sanitation - you can read some of their stories.
Through our Turn on the Tap campaign, you can make clean water dreams come true for families in need - simply by going for a walk. So why not organise a sponsored walk for water in your community? Order your FREE walk for water resources today!
You can also pray for communities who don’t have access to clean water and sanitation.
