The Greatest Journey

The Greatest JourneyThe Greatest Journey is a ministry of both Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, embodying both organisations’ purposes of evangelism, discipleship and training.

The mission of The Greatest Journey is to help local churches reach as many children as possible with the Gospel, to establish them in their faith in Jesus Christ and to equip them to pray for and share the Gospel with their family and friends.

The Greatest Journey (TGJ) is a series of 12 lessons containing exciting Biblical content exclusively delivered and presented by trained volunteers from local churches, with training and all resources needed provided free of charge, at their request. It is primarily intended that TGJ will be used in connection with Samaritan's Purse programmes overseas, with local churches sharing our desire to reach as many children as possible around the world with the Gospel.

Today, TGJ is delivered by churches where an Operation Christmas Child (OCC) shoebox distribution has taken place; needy children who received a gift-filled shoebox, without obligation, may be invited to participate in TGJ by local churches.

In this way, children accepting this free invitation are usually able to join the programme with their friends and with other children from their community; volunteers giving the lessons are often teachers they already know.  Teachers are drawn from a growing network of volunteers formed as part of the Samaritan’s Purse OCC programme which is active in over 100 countries.

With a comprehensive Leader’s Guide, the programme uses memory verses and engaging activities to teach children how to receive Jesus as their Saviour, follow Him each day and share their faith with others.  Children completing the TGJ programme are awarded a personal certificate and many will receive a special copy of the New Testament in their own language, which also contains Old Testament stories, colourful illustrations, more memory verses and other learning aids.In many countries around the world, Bibles are rare, or hard to obtain; these Bibles become instant treasures, not only to the children receiving them but to their friends and families as well.

TGJ is currently translated into 60 languages and, for the 2011-12 OCC season, it is anticipated that one million children,in over 50 countries will participate in the programme. It is hoped that up to four million children a year will choose to take The Greatest Journey.
