Supporter Spotlight

The 2012 Virgin London Marathon

teamSamaritan’s Purse had 6 runners competing in the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April this year and it was a fabulous day.  The sun shone almost the whole time until the heavens opened at around 3.30, just in time to refresh our runners as most of them crossed the finish line.

People amongst the crowd were cheering for Bev, Andy, Alison, Garth, Kathy and Greg (our green giant!), and it really made a difference to them when they spotted SP Staff and supporters cheering them on.

Lynne DeJoodt said, “You do realise the importance of being there for them on a day like this.  They are making such a HUGE effort for Samaritans Purse so to scream and shout a bit on their behalf was a small offering.”

Andy Ransberry, who was running to raise money for Child and Family Support, ran the event in 5 hours 28mins. He said,  “I am grateful to be able to run and raise money for Child & Family support. This programme transforms lives and communities. I am in awe of the people who work and volunteer in their communities to help other people, to thrive not just survive."

Bev Kauffeldt, who ran the marathon in 4 hours 54mins said  "What a day!!! The sun came out-had a GREAT race so much better than last year! Saw my amazing SP ladies so many times on the course - shaking the sasa and waving the Liberian flag - such a great experience. Thanks to everyone for you prayers!!! It was AWESOME!" Kathy Dines told us “Just wanted to let you know that I had an amazing Marathon day. I managed 4hours 38mins, it was tough at the end but well worth it!”

Alison Linskey who ran the event in 4hours 13mins told us, “I had such a fantastic time on Sunday. Loved every minute of it! It was so humbling, and felt such a privilege to be involved. It was amazing to be able to help Gospel work in Kenya.  I guess that sums it up, but it was an indescribably fantastic day!

Garth Williams said, “Many thanks for organising everything - it was a great day!  I finished in 3hours 37mins and was still able to walk afterwards, which was a bonus!”

Greg Melville, our ‘green giant’ pictured below, ran the event in 5hours 14mins, keeping his fancy dress costume to the end!
