Ugandan goats to the rescue
In June 2008, a furry present arrived at Mary’s house in northern Uganda. Since that day, her life has radically changed. The little gift was a baby goat, which has filled Maria with hope for her future and the welfare of her family.
“I have called the goat Miracle,” Maria explains. “Now I have milk to drink and sell, I have firewood because the goat eats the leaves from the trees and this gives me the wood that I may not have had the time to strip and gather and the goat droppings provide me with fertilizer for my banana trees. Thank you so much for what you have done.”
Who would have thought that one little goat could affect an entire family in so many ways. And that’s not all. Maria used to spend many hours taking her daughter to the health clinic, but now that she can drink goat’s milk, they haven’t had to visit the clinic once.
Looking ahead to the future, Maria is already making plans for her ‘miracle’ goat. “I want to increase my farm with bananas and goats to be big, so big,” she explains. “I want to have more kids from the goats and sell them and also help my friends do the same.”
