Discovery Teams Stories

Lynda McCann from Chingford went to Uganda…

“Our water focus Discovery Team was eye opening, bone shaking and spiritually uplifting. Water programmes manager, Tim Holmes, was superb and inspiring, encouraging our team in an enthusiastic and gentle way. Thank you for your words of wisdom. I wouldn’t have missed this discovery trip to Uganda for the world.”

Patsy Ayathurai from Ashford went to Belarus…

“I have always had a desire for missions, but to be honest I could not figure out how I would fit. When the opportunity came I put my name forward and a team of 12 people from Willesborough Baptist church and Samaritan’s Purse went to Boroviki in Belarus on a Discovery Team for 12 days.

We helped with renovation work and met many young people at the Christian rehabilitation centre. Hearing their powerful testimonies was very moving. Time and again we have seen Gods goodness and faithfulness in the midst of hardship and witnessed his light shinning in darkness. What a faithful God! Thank you Samaritan’s Purse for giving me the opportunity to have this experience.”

Dena Cook, freelance reporter, went to Serbia...

“Spending five days in northern Serbia with Samaritan's Purse distributing Christmas shoeboxes has changed me. If I have learned anything from this trip it is that any doubts I had about the shoeboxes not being delivered, and suspicions that the Christian volunteers would be trying to convert the Romas, have been completely cleared up. I am so proud I was part of bringing joy to more than 4,000 children and will make sure I make as many boxes as I possibly can next year because I know how desperately needed they are.”

Eddie Taylor from Liverpool went to Uganda…

“Being a part of this young people’s team was an immense experience and a chance to see a different aspect of the world. I saw greater problems than I had imagined, but saw that through Samaritan’s Purse and its partners it is possible to improve the lives of communities. Now I have real memories of people that we visited, giving me the chance to share these stories.”
