Prayers


 Prayer runs through the heart of our work. It sustains us when we face tough situations in the places where we work.

Below are some of the things that we at Samaritan’s Purse are praying for – please join us in praying for these things too.

Kenya

Pray that the 200 churches that have been envisioned through our Hope (Holistic Outreach Partnership Empowerment) Programme will continue to meet the needs of their communities, both spiritually and physically.

Pray that all the churches across the country will come to hear about the impact that they can have in their communities and learn about the practical things they can do to change the lives of the people around them as in Milicent's story.

Praise God for the work of the Pastors like Pastor Humphreys, who have taken their role in the community to new levels by putting their churches in the heart of broken communities. They are able to reach out to people and provide them with a place they can feel safe and experience God's love.

Japan

Pray for the Christians who are living in Japan as they continue to show God's love to the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. We pray that God will continue to give them the confidence to reach out to others proclaiming Jesus.

Pray for those who have lost their homes, their possessions and especially for those that have lost loved ones.

Praise God for all those who travelled to Japan in the aftermath to bring aid and offer support to the people. We praise God for keeping them safe during the aftershocks and for sending them home safely.

Rwanda

Pray for the many children who have been left orphaned by HIV and AIDS. Pray that they will feel God's love and protection.

Pray for the church and community members who have taken on the responsibility of orphans in their village. Pray that these people will be encouraged to continue the work that they have started. Ask for God's blessing on their lives.

Praise God for the missionaries who travel to work alongside people in their communities; bringing them hope, offering encouragement and sharing God's love.

Uganda

Pray for the millions of people around the world who do not have access to clean water. Pray that our water and sanitation programme in Uganda can help improve the lives of many as we install water filters in people's homes, changing dirty contaminated water to clean healthy water.

Pray for our partners A Rocha Uganda who are working very hard to provide training and access to clean water by providing Bio-Sand Filters. Eddie is an example of the difference they are making.

Pray for the many children left orphaned by HIV and AIDS. Pray that people will come forward and support them through our Child and Family Support programme.

Praise God for the lives that have been impacted by having access to clean water. Now people are living healthier and happier.

Liberia

Pray for our church based livelihoods programme that is empowering the women of Liberia and reducing the rate of illiteracy. Pray that the women who attend the training course will have transformed lives as they learn how to develop themselves and form sustainable futures.

Pray for Samaritan's Purse team in Liberia as they work with local churches to minister to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Liberia

Praise God for the many successful stories that we have heard from people like Sao Jallah, whose life has greatly improved. They are very thankful for the tools that we offer them that enable them to brighten their future and their family's future.

Ivory Coast

Pray for peace amongst the people of the Ivory Coast as political turmoil has revived the countries 10 year on and off civil war.

Please pray for the people who are caught in the conflict in the Ivory Coast.

Pray also for Samaritan's Purse and the other aid agencies that are on the ground in Liberia to assist with the growing numbers of refugees. The need for clean water and sanitation increases as basic resources come under pressure.

Pray for the people of Liberia and its government as they struggle to accommodate the 100,000 plus refugees that have entered the country.

Japan

Please pray for the Japanese people as they struggle to find the basic necessities that they need.

Pray that the efforts to completely cool the Fukushima Daiichi reactors will be successful.

Please pray for the Samaritan’s Purse team who have travelled to Japan to distribute supplies. Pray that the distribution will go smoothly and reach those who need the most help.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Please pray for the security of the believers living in this region.

Pray that the churches there will continue to communicate with one another and that there will be an ongoing oneness between them.

Pray that the believers in this region will continue to have renewed strength and determination amidst the inevitable setbacks and restrictions that they and their communities face.

Haiti

Pray for strength and determination for all the international workers who are currently based in Haiti doing various jobs.

Pray for all the families who have been affected by the outbreak of cholera.

Pray for the people of Haiti that each day they will have renewed hope in the restoration of their country.

Operation Christmas Child

Give thanks for the 1.12 million Shoeboxes that were sent to Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa from the UK and Ireland. We would also like to give thanks for the 8 million boxes that were sent by Samaritan’s Purse Internationally.
 
Give thanks for all the boxes that were ordered online via our brand new Shoebox World. Please pray that more and more new people will take part this way in 2011.

Please continue to pray for all the children who received shoeboxes that they will continue to feel loved throughout the year.

  • Give thanks for all the goats, mature hens and other livelihood gifts that have been bought this Christmas. Pray for the families receiving them that they would know that each gift comes with love from individuals who care deeply for their situation. 
     

  • As we head into 2011 please pray for the continued success of the Livelihoods programme. Pray that God would help us to develop Livelihoods into a campaign that can benefit many, many more.

  • Pray that people would continue to use our gift catalogue to buy gifts that provide essential livelihood tools for people around the world. Also pray that as people in the UK use the catalogue they would understand the value of giving to those less fortunate than themselves - giving a gift that will bring longer lasting life.


  • Pray for the churches we have begun working with, that they would be trained and inspired to care for all those who are suffering because of HIV and AIDS. Pray that as they reach out to those suffering with HIV and AIDs they would in turn be renewed with new joy and strength.

  • Please pray for our partners who are away from family this Christmas. Pray that they would be greatly encouraged as they help prevent the spread of HIV, as they care for and support people living with HIV, and as they help minimise its effect on individual’s lives.

  • Please pray for all the people who receive a gift this Christmas from the gift catalogue. Pray that they would be inspired to do even more to help disadvantaged families overseas in 2011.

  • Give thanks for all the children and families who have been impacted in 2009 through our HIV and AIDS campaign. Pray that they would know that the help has come from people who care deeply for their situation. Pray that they would know God.


  • Please pray for our water partners. Pray that God would give them great perseverance and strength to continue the vital work that they do and for the families and communities who are receiving clean water. Pray that they would understand that Samaritan’s Purse works to help them because they are valued children of God.

  • Pray for those families and communities who are without clean water. Let’s pray that next year Samaritan’s Purse would be able to reach even more families and children with this lifesaving miracle.

  • As we head into 2011 pray for our Turn on the Tap campaign. Pray that supporters would be encouraged to raise more money to support the work of our water programmes.

  • Pray for everyone receiving a water gift from our gift catalogue this Christmas. Pray that they would understand the importance of the gift that they are giving to a family overseas. Pray that it would stir them to do more for those who don’t have access to clean water.

  • •    As 2010 comes to an end and we head into 2011 let’s give thanks for all the families who now have access to clean water. Give thanks that their children are healthier and that they are able to collect water in a safe environment. Pray that they would know that their gift has come from people who care deeply for their situation and that they do so because God loves them.


Pray for the millions of families and children affected by the severe famine in East Africa. Pray for wisdom for the Government leaders in Ethiopia and Kenya and for the aid agencies, including Samaritan's Purse, as they work to bring relief to children and families in need.

In Ethiopia: Praise God for the 600,000 women and children who are already benefiting from Samaritan’s Purse emergency aid and pray that we will be able to provide food and water to many more.

In Kenya: Praise God that some farmers have received livestock from Samaritan’s Purse that are better equipped to survive droughts and pray that Samaritan’s Purse will be able to provide livestock, seeds and fertilizer to many more farmers who are in urgent need so that they can provide food for their families.


  • Give thanks that so many churches from different denominations and traditions have been brought together this year. Let’s pray that this would continue and that next year churches would again come together in prayer, in wrapping, packing, sending, and delivering.

  • Pray for all our partners who will be distributing shoeboxes this year. Pray for their safety as they travel to remote areas. Pray that they will be full of joy and wisdom as they spend time with children and families.

  • Give thanks for all the volunteers across the country who have worked so hard over the last couple of months to make Operation Christmas Child possible. Let’s pray that their Christmas will be a time of rest and fun with family and friends.

  • Give thanks for the shoeboxes that are being sent overseas this Christmas to children in need. Pray that each shoebox will bring a message of love and care from a God who loves them deeply. Pray that each shoebox would be a wonderful miracle of light.
