Update from Ethiopia and Kenya

Arriving back in the UK, Simon Barrington tells of how the situation in Ethiopia and Kenya is far from improved.

The drought and famine continues and Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia is working hard to bring emergency food relief to thousands of families whose crops have failed.  And yet, despite this urgent need for support, Simon gives thanks to our heavenly Father, “I can testify that amidst the hunger and the desperation I saw hope and transformation taking place. In Southern Ethiopia a community of 9,000 families and children now have access to clean water - this is truly fantastic news!”

Thanks to a generous donation from a UK supporter, Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia have been able to hand dig six wells and cap six springs, bringing real transformation to Aleoto Wando, a region of southern Ethiopia. Before the new development, unclean water brought severe sickness to thousands of adults and children, but now the communities are thrilled that their children are healthier, that they don’t have to travel so far to collect clean water and that they are learning about hygiene.

The whole process of spring capping is so simple and involves taking a natural mountain spring that gushes out into a muddy pool and using piping to siphon the water off into a man-made reservoir.  While the process may be simple, the changes it brings is a reminder of the vital importance of clean, safe drinking water for families and children in the developing world.

A big thank you to all of you who have stood with us and raised funds to enable communities like this one in Southern Ethiopia to receive clean drinking water and for thousands of others across the region to receive emergency food . We continue to ask you to stand with us as we work to bring transformation to the lives of thousands of vulnerable families and children in this part of the world.
