Samaritan's Purse runners excel at London Marathon
Six supporters of Samaritan's Purse from three different countries around the world took part in the London Marathon on Sunday April 17th, running just over 26 miles as part of the new ‘Team Samaritan's Purse' initiative.
Jon Chambers, Steve Griffin, Simon Harris, Bev Kauffeldt, Connie Rozes and Matt Smith each produced excellent runs, starting in Greenwich and running along the embankment of the River Thames before finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. Matt Smith did an excellent time of 03:39:18 and was the fastest of our runners.
They ran to raise money for our water and sanitation projects, our HIV and AIDS projects, and for Operation Christmas Child. Together they raised over £20,000! Each of our runners has been inspired by their own firsthand experience of the work Samaritan's Purse does overseas and they know that the money they have raised will impact the lives of many children and families in need.
Bev Kauffeldt travelled all the way from Liberia to run the London Marathon. She has been blogging about her training and posted a quick blog after the marathon. "I missed my time BIG TIME - but as my good friend Buzz said on my fb wall "may not be the time you desired to finish in, but it was God's time for you to finish". When I read these words, I cried again - he is right. If I would have got my time it would have been about me...and I have said this whole time it is NOT about me. Instead God used that suffering to draw me back to why I was running...so thankful that He did."
We are proud of their achievements and would like to say a special thank you to all of our runners for their dedication to the cause.
