Turn on the Tap joins with MPs in World Water Day Event

The Turn on the Tap team from Samaritan's Purse joined other charities and a number of MPs for a symbolic walk for water to commemorate World Water Day on Tuesday March 22nd.
The team tried their hand on the temporary water pump and also went on a short walk for water in Victoria Gardens behind the Houses of Parliament as part of an event organised by End Water Poverty, a coalition of charities fighting water poverty of which Samaritan's Purse is a member.
The event was intended to give MPs a glimpse into the everyday reality for many women and children in places like Africa, who must walk on average 4 miles to collect water often weighing as much as 20kg and to lobby them to prioritise the issue of water and sanitation within Parliament.
"It's important to take time out on World Water Day to remember those who every single day face the challenge of finding often dirty water to drink," says Katy Talbot-Vaux. "The encouraging thing was today also reminded us that we can do something about this, whether by lobbying our MPs or working with charities like Samaritan's Purse - it's all about ending water poverty."
The event also marked the first in the 2011 calendar for Turn on the Tap, our campaign for clean water in the developing world due to be re-launched on April 1.
