Without water and sanitation, millions are trapped in poverty

The following is appeal from Simon Barrington to Samaritan's Purse supporters regarding our work with children and families trapped in water poverty...

Dear Supporter,

I want to thank you for your support of Samaritan’s Purse in recent years, which has helped us bring hope to so many children and families in need.

I also want to tell you about a situation which may shock and upset you, but which I believe we can too easily become comfortable with. In the time that it will take you to read this article, three children will have died as a result of drinking unclean water. This equates to 4,000 children dying each day across the world.

“...I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.” Matthew 25:35

Most important of all, each of these deaths is preventable. In fact, you can actually help us prevent this tragedy.

By giving families in Africa access to clean water and sanitation, we are already seeing lives turned around. Because what starts as a water filter, hand-dug well or latrine block, results in improved health, increased education, reduced poverty – lives literally being saved.

Will you join with us to lift even more families out of water poverty? We want to bring hope to 100,000 people living without clean water this year, but at present we have a shortfall in funding which means 32,000 people will remain unreached.

We want to help them, but we can’t do it without you.

Here is the impact your gift can have:

£15 could provide a family in Niger with access to a latrine block, providing safe and hygienic sanitation

£40 could provide a family in Liberia with a BioSand Filter, bringing clean water into their home

£75 could ensure a family in Mozambique can access clean drinking water from a repaired borehole

Please consider giving the gift of water to a family in need by making a donation to our work. To make a donation now, click here.
