Haiti: Walter reports from the fray

Richard sitting up in bed"There are very deep lows like this morning when I was there when a doctor had to pronounce the death of a baby, no more than 18 month old, from Cholera. You can not imaging the horror of the young mother for her child. It rips your heart to pieces.

Then there are the real highs.  A young boy Richard, that came in a few days ago in a really bad way with Cholera, went home today and looked great.

I'd stopped at his tent a few a days to see how he was getting on & took balloons and bubble for all the kids. Today as he was being discharged he came looking for me to say goodbye, it was great.

The numbers at the Bercy Clinic are still going down, around 60 patients on IV's when I left at 7:15pm this evening.

The new built Clinic at City Sole opens tomorrow. There is a far great population there & we don't really know what to expect yet as all the other areas that has had Cholera get their water from rivers. City Sole's water supply comes from underground, pumped supplies, so we can only hope & pray that it won't be as bad as everyone is expecting."
