Phatfish join with Samaritan's Purse to end water poverty

Phatfish

Phatfish
, one of the UK’s most well known and well loved Christian music bands, is joining with Samaritan’s Purse to help bring an end to water poverty through our Turn on the Tap campaign.

Starting with the second leg of their ‘Higher’ tour, which gets underway in early February, Phatfish will be sharing with their audience the plight of over 800 million people worldwide who do not have access to clean water.

Both Phatfish and Samaritan’s Purse see this exciting new relationship as something that will grow and develop over the next few years.  Simon Barrington, Executive Director of Samaritan’s Purse UK says: “We are excited to be working with Phatfish, and so encouraged by their desire to make a positive difference in the lives of people who are forced to drink water which is harmful to their health, particularly children who are most at risk.”

Lou Fellingham, lead singer of Phatfish adds:”This tragedy was really brought home to us when we realised that, in the time taken to perform one of our songs 10-12 children will die from waterborne disease.  This is a tragedy made all the worse by the fact that these deaths are avoidable, those children need not die.”

Samaritan’s Purse UK has established a comprehensive water and sanitation programme through which boreholes are being drilled, and wells dug to find sources of clean water. Water filters are also being provided to make dirty water safe to drink should it not be possible to find a source of clean water. Money for these programmes is raised through our Turn on the Tap campaign (www.turnonthetap.org.uk) and it is this campaign that is being supported and promoted by Phatfish with free resources provided by Samaritan’s Purse.

The second leg of Phatfish’s ‘Higher’ tour starts in Worcester on February 3rd 2012.  Eight dates are currently confirmed with the tour finishing in Southampton on March 17th 2012. See http://www.phatfish.net/ for more details.
