A Day Of Action
Samaritan’s Purse has been providing food and other aid to thousands of refugees escaping from the ongoing fighting in the Nuba Mountains region of Sudan. More than 5,000 people have sought refuge in North Unity State in South Sudan.
When Samaritan’s Purse staff heard reports of thousands of refugees from the Nuba Mountains stranded without food, water, or shelter, they immediately responded.
“What we found was even worse than we expected,” team leader David Phillips said. “These poor people were on the edge of death.”
In August, there was no way to transport the large amounts of food they needed by land, so we used our Kenya-based DC-3 to airdrop 19 metric tons of food to the area.

Since August, we have distributed over 12,000 metric tons of food provided by the World Food Program (WFP), along with plastic tarps and other supplies. We coordinated closely with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) for this response. More recently, our team constructed an airstrip in South Sudan for more efficient future shipments of food and supplies.
“Please tell everyone to pray for us,” Matthias, a Sudanese refugee, requested. “We need the world to remember us. The only thing we want is to survive and to live in peace.”

All of the aid is showing that God loves the refugees, and is a strong tower for those who turn to Him.
